Alex received certification as a pastry maker in his hometown of Manila in the Phillipines, and has been in the US since 1987.

Alex's career in this industry is quite varied. From 1989-1991 he was chef and co-owner of a restaurant. From 1991-1996 he was with Ornamental Edibles eventually becoming sales manager; his clients included Del Monte and Dole. Alex has been a presenter to the California Farm and Ecological Farm Conferences, and has been published in Country Life and Gourmet magazines. He has also been a bartender and banquet manager for Marriott Corporation. Alex has been with BU since 2002.
